I am a great lover of books and film. I love being caught up in the storylines and seeing life through the eyes of each character. One theme that is almost always constant in every story is that of love. We have all heard of the great love stories of Romeo & Juliet, Darcy & Elizabeth, Edward & Bella and many more. These fictional romances are beautiful but each of us walks the path and crosses the way of true and beautiful romances every day.
To me the great love stories are those of Glen & Joyce, Abe & Betsy, Dev & Brigitta, Greg & Sally, Chris & Cathy, Jeff & Emily, Lindsey & Stephanie, Bart & Patti, and many more (there are just too many to name). I am blessed to walk amongst what I consider some of the greatest love stories of our day. Love isn’t just about romance and passion and adventure. It is about consideration and respect for your partner. It is about the peace of being in each other’s company. It is about sharing in the joy of the birth of a child and watching that child grow. It is about establishing traditions in your home that bring you all together in prayer. It is about holding each other up through the trials of life such as the loss of a job or the loss of a child. It is about finding your spouse at the end of a day of work to embrace and share a quiet moment before continuing on in your responsibilities. It is about finding time together doing the simple things of life like going to the grocery story to buy cereal. It is about sitting together and holding hands during sacrament meeting. It is about attending the temple together and feeling the reminder of the covenants shared. It is about sharing this life together and working toward the ability to have it forever.
I am not foolish to believe that I truly know what love is as I have not been blessed to experience what it is like to be in love, but I am grateful for the examples that I have been able to witness and learn from.
